Linda Ellard-Brown, Joplin MO

Linda Ellard-Brown Local Color Art Gallery Joplin MOAs far back as I can remember I have always had a need to be creative. When I attended Missouri Southern State University I experienced three dimensional art in the form of clay. I enjoyed sculpting forms with clay but I was always drawn to the pottery wheel.

Clay is my passion and creative outlet. It makes me happy to form a cup or bowl from a lump of clay. My work for the most part is functional pottery. I like nothing more than using a piece of art work that I have made. I work primarily in my studio at home but have also enjoyed teaching others to work with clay in the past.

As an artist, my craft has evolved and changed over time. The past couple of years my clay pieces have become a canvas of sort. I discovered the love of “sgraffito” which is Italian for scratching the surface. I’m always amazed when I scratch away the underglaze from the surface of a piece revealing the clay body below. I’m drawn to the positive and negative spaces I can create.

It’s nice to discover your gift, but the real joy comes in sharing this gift. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
