Steve Doerr, Joplin MO
I love the surprises that come forth from wood when you start working with it. God in His ultimate wisdom chose to cover it with bark and allow us to reveal His art and beauty through the gifts and talents He has given us. Because of this, I have become a collector of wood. Much to my wife’s dismay, I will probably never be able to expose all of God’s beauty in the wood I have and will continue to collect.
Steve Doerr began his woodworking as a hobby in the early 1980’s. Over the years, Steve continued his hobby as a self taught woodworker through the use of books, magazines, videos/DVD’s and discussions with and demonstrations by other woodworkers. After completing 37 years in the field of public education, Steve has decided that it is time for him to spend a lot more time in his shop doing one of the thinks he loves best—woodworking. As a result, Steve enjoys making things for his friends, family and others that appreciate well crafted woodworking products.
During the past 30 years, Steve has shown a real appreciation for Shaker and Arts and Craft style furniture. But, has made other styles based on the desires of those that he is building for. During the past few years, Steve has begun to learn and enjoy using the lathe. He has made bowls, platters and pens in order to become a more versatile woodworker and artist.
